What a difference a week makes.
In recent days, tariffs and economic policy have dominated the front pages. Perspectives on Trump’s strategy have pretty much run the gamut from complete trust to near-apocalyptic doomsaying.
Tuesday I talked about the necessary growing pains, and the disproportionate outrage from the Left in response to Trump’s reciprocal tariffs.
Losses in the stock market became the media’s new obsession.
And despite Trump’s transparency on the necessary difficulty of bringing wealth and manufacturing back to America, he was denigrated as a madman who would wreck the American economy.
Even conservative commentators were quick to attack his aggressive use of tariffs.

Those tariffs came with some conditions: namely, that the nations shouldn’t retaliate in kind.
Here’s the thing.
Even if Trump isn’t “liked” by a lot of global leaders, they respect him.
Which is why after the tariffs were announced, most nations jumped to negotiate a resolution with the administration.
Except for one: China.
Instead of heeding Trump’s warning, China hiked its tariffs on the U.S. from 34% to 84%.
They must have forgotten who they were dealing with.
