Protecting our kids online...
Thirteen.
That’s the legal age kids can sign up for social media platforms under current law.
Thanks to a 1998 law passed when the internet was still in its infancy — the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act — kids essentially get unfettered access to everything the internet has to offer at just 13 years old.
Porn, adult content, toxic algorithms, and endless scrolling.
And that’s to say nothing of the potential predators that they could run into on these platforms.
It’s crazy when you think about it.
Thankfully, lawmakers are working to fix the problem.
I recently had IN Representative Erin Houchin on the show to talk about her efforts to pass the RESET Act.
It would be a giant step in protecting our children, both physically and mentally.
Let’s break it down.
