Make no mistake about what happened on Tuesday night: Republicans were handed a decisive defeat.
Voters told us over and over and over again what their top concern was, and we simply failed to meet the mark. They told us that their daily lives were getting harder. Putting gas in the car, affording groceries, paying healthcare premiums, covering rent - every single staple of daily life has become more expensive.
Instead of responding with real, tangible economic relief and proving we understand their needs, too many campaigns responded with social issues. In competitive districts where the election was actually decided, virtually no major campiagns addressed the core affordability crisis head-on.
We had real achievements to tout - like the success of TrumpRx lowering essential prescription drug costs for seniors, or Trump accounts building generational wealth for working families - and we completely ignored them. Now, we are paying the price in the minority for the next two years.
